The Nursing Home Survival Guide
Fox5SanDiego reported that two Phoenix attorneys are advocating and speaking out on behalf of the elderly nursing home residents who are at risk of caregiver neglect and negligence.
One of the attorneys, Martin Solomon, said, “This guide empowers people with practical steps to evaluate care homes before placing a loved one in their care and gives them the tools to be better advocates.”
The Phoenix-based firm, Solomon & Relihan, believed that too little is being done to keep our most vulnerable residents safe. They say that laws and guidelines only work when the administrative leaders adhere to the rules. Their goal is to educate families so that their loved ones are protected and cared for.
Martin and his daughter, Danielle Solomon, co-wrote The Nursing Home Survival Guide to provide families with crucial information to guide them in choosing an approriate facility for their family members. This guide focuses on key indicators of safety and quality, such as staff-to-resident ratios, caregiver qualifications, and facility oversight practices.
It helps families ask the right questions when choosing a home for their loved one, so they can identify the red flags and advocate confidently on their behalf.
Nearly 1 in 5 Arizonans is 65 or older, according to America’s Health Rankings. This places Arizona among the top 15 states with the largest number of aging adults.
With the help of medical advances and a better understanding of healthy living, people are living longer than ever. But with this comes more complex health problems that require supportive environments like nursing homes and assisted living facilities.
“Choosing a nursing home is one of the most important and emotionally complex decisions a family can make,” said Martin Solomon. “This guide empowers people with practical steps to evaluate care homes before placing a loved one in their care and gives them the tools to be better advocates.”
