Embezzlement

FoxCarolina reported that a former office manager and bookkeeper at Silver Bluff in Canton, North Carolina, has been sentenced to prison in an embezzlement scheme.

Amy Elizabeth Curry previously worked for a senior assisted living facility in western North Carolina, and during her tenure, she made more than 150 unauthorized bank transfers from the facility’s accounts. Between December 2022 and April 2023, Curry had embezzled at least $1.5 million.

Curry deleted the wire transfer history from Silver Bluff’s bank accounts and prevented other employees from receiving notifications regarding these transfers. She had also falsely written that the transfers were for payroll when, in fact, they were not.

Curry used these embezzled funds for her personal experiences and enjoyment. Curry had purchased a pickup truck and used more than $700,000 in gambling with her boyfriend at casinos. Curry pleaded guilty to wire fraud and was sentenced to 70 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release. Lastly, Curry was ordered to repay $1.5 million in restitution to Silver Bluff.
