“What the sheriff himself did does not reflect on the sheriff’s deputies. I don’t think you can paint the deputies with what the sheriff did. I mean, everybody has to answer for what he or she does individually. I’ve never thought it’s fair to paint a department by the department head,” he said.
Sheriff Wright Finally Resigns
WYFF reported on the ongoing criminal investigation into Spartanburg Sheriff Chuck Wright. Wright announced in April that he was taking a leave of absence, citing health concerns including substance and alcohol issues. Wright finally sent his resignation letter to Gov. Henry McMaster, citing an unknown medical diagnosis. The real reason must be the ongoing criminal investigations into allegations of drugs, embezzlement, and mismanagement of the Sheriff’s office.
“It’s been a really long saga, going on a year now, and I think this is just really good for everybody to press reset and get a chance to have confidence again,” Sen. Josh Kimbrell, R-Spartanburg County said. “I can assure the public that there’s no break in continuity of service. Now, we’ve got a new interim sheriff, and I think that’s good for everybody.”
Spartanburg County Sheriff Chuck Wright should be ashamed for taking advantage of the citizens of Spartanburg.
“Whether it’s the investigation — ethics investigations regarding his son being there, or the credit card transactions. Now, obviously, we know that there’s been an ongoing FBI investigation there, and other agencies and all that’s very concerning,” he said.
