Trump’s Medicaid Cuts

The article from Health Leaders Media discusses the likely ramifications of proposed Medicaid cuts by Trump Republicans on nursing homes. The proposed cuts aim to reducing billions of dollars from Medicaid funding. Medicaid is the main payer for long term care including nursing homes. Medicare only covers short term medical expenses and rehabilitation for older Americans.

These reduction will negatively impact nursing homes which rely on Medicaid reimbursements to operate. The consequences include decreased staffing levels, reduced quality of care, and even facility closures. The Medicaid Cut will also strain the work force in long term care which is already low.

This would make it even more difficult to recruit high quality staff, and increase pressure on family members to provide care. The proposed Medicaid cuts could have effects on availability and quality of long-term care services also affect the elderly who rely on the services for daily needs.

No wonder just 25 percent of voters nationally say they approve of Trump’s big ugly bill cutting Medicaid and SNAP, according to a new poll from Quinnipiac University. More than half of voters oppose it. Just 10 percent of voters favor Medicaid cuts. Nearly half want Medicaid funding to increase; 40 percent would like it to stay the same.
